The NCC Story

NCC was started by Marion and Mary in 2012 out of a connection between 2 people who had a vision for sharing their love of people and helping others succeed. Back in 2012 when Mary joined the gym, Mary was training at the time to improve her first love, Karate and martial arts. Marion very quickly took to mentoring and supporting Mary into becoming one of South Africa’s top female Athletes. It was very shortly after this that Mary and Leon crossed paths. Both Mary and Leon managed to make the team selected to compete against South Africa’s finest. The 2 shared a similar work ethic and a partnership was formed. They were paired together in the winning workout that took the team to a once in a lifetime experience at the CrossFit games 2013. Still not knowing much about each other or the sport they sat side by side for 20 odd hours where a friendship was formed on the way to the US of A and took on the reebok CrossFit Games. They were paired together in numerous workouts showing the world what a team was meant to be.

Leon being the passionate personal trainer that he is realised he could make an even bigger difference and joined forces with Mary and Marion, creating Northcliff CrossFit. Forging the strongest knowledge based systems, programs and team that South Africa has seen. The 2 like-minded athletes have since spent years refining the programs, systems, and gaining knowledge and experience from the world’s leading coaches, athletes and gyms to further their ability to not only be the best coaches but develop the best coaches in the business … bringing you Johannesburg’s premier CrossFit, and fitness facility, Northcliff CrossFit.

Our philosophy, #betterisbetter, comes from our passion and drive in helping each member to improve and develop every day, working towards becoming a better version of yourself physically & mentally.

At NCC, we strive to help you progress continuously, where being better than you were yesterday is a key step in achieving your ultimate goal.
Likewise, we are also striving to be better. Through a combination of our dedication to bettering the gym, your surroundings and our coaches, combined with your commitment - the results lead to a better YOU!

Dylan Labuschange

Dylan Labuschange, otherwise known as The Ram, enjoys an active lifestyle and has always had a passion for Sports and athletic activities. It was through personal training, though, that Dylan developed his true passion for supporting others, change their lives with regards to health and fitness.
Having worked as a personal trainer, sports conditioner and CrossFit coach for 4 years, he has supported many people re-evaluate their health and fitness, set clear and achievable goals, and reach these goals.

1) Why do you love coaching? I love coaching because I love being able to make a positive impact and be a positive influence in others lives. Seeing and being a part of others achieving their goals is one of the greatest feelings you can experience and I get to experience that on a regular basis as a coach. 2) What is your next favorite past time after coaching & CrossFit? When I’m not at the gym I’m usually at home either catching up on some tv series or spending time with family. Other than that I love a day out with friends enjoying a couple beers or getting up to something active outside the walls of the gym.

Rohan Swarts

Being in the fitness and personal training industry for close to a decade now, I have been exposed to a variety of training techniques. I have 6 years of experience in rehabilitative as well as general population Pilates training, and also boast an extensive background in functional fitness coaching. I have also been practicing as a qualified Sports and Swedish massage therapist for the passed three years, and run my own massage practice. I coach because I find enjoyment in helping other people reach and in some instances exceed their goals. "Healthy body, healthy mind" is pretty much my "go-to" slogan for the promotion of staying fit and active.

1) Why do you love coaching? I love coaching because I enjoy helping people realise their full potential. Fitness and a healthy lifestyle extends so much further than what gets accomplished in the gym, a healthy body and mind is the most underrated antidepressant and sharing that with others has become a passion of mine.

2) What is your next favorite past time after coaching & CrossFit? My favourite past time after coaching and CrossFit is massage. One of my other passions. Outside of "work" though I enjoy spending time with friends or binge watching series on Netflix.

3) Tell us something about yourself we don’t know? Something you wouldn't know about me is that I'm a pretty decent pole dancer and have a hairless dog named Barry.

Maruschka Cameron:

Member liaison and box manager.

1. Let me start by saying, coaching is new for me, but I'm lov'in it. It gives me a chance to share my, knowledge. It gives me access to various people from different backgrounds and experiences enriching my life daily. Coaching gives me the ability to make your training time the best time of your day, but mostly I love coaching because it teaches me so much about life and how we all as humans are connected and an extension of each other in some way, no matter how small.

2. I mean I've tried reading, hiking ( which I still love when I have the time to), but I love wait for it ...finding new food joints. There is something about a dingy / or none dingy place that sells good food that just gets me. So I'm always looking for new places. Also, vegging on the couch is just as nice.

3. There are many I suppose. One that makes me laugh sometimes is the fact that I was part of the Toast masters at school. I mean talking is my thing, how good I am at it debatable, but I loved it.
